About the Derby

The Pinewood Derby is the only competive event offered this year.  Rules and guidelines for race are on district web site.  Racing in the District Derby Automatically makes you eligible to enter in the Council Pine Wood Derby on May 13 at Bass Pro in Harrisburg Mall.

General Information

The Rules

The District Derby will follow the officially published rules for Pinewood Derby competition.  A copy of these rules will be on hand during registration.  See the district web site for guidelines and rules.   Click here for details Derby Rules

Weights

Cars may weigh no more than 5 ounces.  A certified scale will be used to weight all cars during registration.  Cars weighing more than 5 ounces will not be permitted to race.

Day of Race Registration

The Derby site will open at 8:00 AM.  Cubs may test their cars on the track, make weight adjustments, or lubricate their cars prior to officially registering them.  Once a car is officially registered, it will be impounded to prevent further adjustment.  After the car is impounded, the Cub may handle the car only when it is time to race.  Pre-registration is important so that the Derby committee can properly plan and staff the event.  The $3.50 fee per Cub is to offset the cost of trophies.  You can also pre-register by emailing or mailing the Pre-Registration Form

Tools and Repairs

You must bring your own tools and weights to make adjustments to your cars.  The Derby committee will not have any tools or weights to lend or sell.

Special Rule

Pack 68, the owner of the computerized track, will not permit any car with wet paint to run on the track.  Please paint your car at least 48 hours before the race.
